Amnéville Zoo, which opened in 1986 and attracts over 600,000 visitors every year, is home to 2,000 animals and 350 species from five continents. As well as mammals, there are birds, fish and reptiles living in areas similar to their natural environment. One particular highlight is the family of big cats, which is one of the best examples in Europe and includes the rare white tiger. As well as offering information and entertainment, the zoo plays an important role in conservation and breeding, helping to protect endangered species. Recent additions include a bat cave and live performances in a huge medieval arena with birds of prey and horses, and the kids will love watching the hippos eat their dinner!
